Spring/Summer 2014: Poker Straight
THE big, bouncy blow-dry is out - poker-straight hair is well and truly back on the agenda for spring/summer 2014.
At Donna Karan and Elie Saab, hair was straightened and sleek and held in place with metal barettes, whilst at Proenza Schouler and Helmut Lang, hairstylists referenced skaters and street style for a new brand of casual cool. Chloé was the show that really put the trend on the map though, with James Pecis using ironed hair and preppy centre partings for the perfect complement to the brand's signature roomy silhouettes and insouciant attitude.
Chloé
James Pecis straightened hair and created preppy centre partings at Chloé. "I wanted the look to be more clean, less voluminous but still sophisticated," he said.
Donna Karan
The poker-straight hair at Donna Karan was held back from the face with a barrette, "to draw attention to the eyes," according to hairstylist Eugene Souleiman.
Helmut Lang
The slouchy clothes in the Helmut Lang spring/summer 2014 collection were offset by smooth and sleek hairstyles by Paul Hanlon. Parted neatly on one side, hair was straightened, tucked behind the model's ears and fastened with an elastic low at the nape of the neck.
MaxMara
Worn flat to models' heads, hair was parted at the centre, straightened and smoothed down for a slick, modern look by hairstylist Luigi Murenu.
